Emry Carr
Coeur D'Alene High School/North Idaho Distance Project
Session 1: Building Sustainable Culture of Youth to HS programs
Session 2: Train More….Race Less
Emry ran cross-country, indoor and outdoor track at Idaho State University (1996-2001).
After completing his collegiate Cross Country eligibility, he was able to join the program as an undergraduate collegiate coach. With his coach and mentor, Brian Jansen, he learned how to best share his experience and begin to develop his philosophy while training the younger
runners.
After graduating, Emry moved to Michigan to be part of an Olympic Development Program, The Hansons Distance Project (now Brooks/Hansons Distance Project).
Emry is in his third year with the distance program at Coeur d'Alene High School in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, now serving as the Head Cross Country Coach and Assistant Track & Field Coach. The program just achieved back to back Boys' XC State Titles in the largest division, along with winning back to back NXR Championships for the Northwest Region.
Emry is also going into his 5th year as Club Director for North Idaho Distance Project, established in 2005 and formerly known as North Idaho Cross Country. Since assuming the role, Emry has led the club to expand its Junior Olympic XC team, as well as added an all-comers youth summer session and indoor and outdoor track programs. As of 2024, the club has a total of 120 registered youth participants. Since 2021, the Club has had 26 USATF Cross Country All-Americans, four National Championship Age Group Teams, as well as two second place and one third place team finish.
