Scott began officiating as a starter for McMinnville (OR) High School in 1993 and has been their starter ever since. That has branched into his starting throughout Oregon and the Western U.S. at high school and collegiate levels and becoming a Master-level official in USATF.  Scott is in heavy demand for his field event officiating and refereeing as evidenced by his selection to various NCAA Championships, the U.S. Olympic Trials, and the 2022 World Athletics Championship. He is a member of the Hayward Field javelin crew. He is active in USATF, serving since 2017 as Certification Chair for the Oregon Association. He retired in 2015 after a 37-year career as a teacher, and he and his wife of 45 years enjoy travel and hiking. He's a regular blood donor, having given over 32 gallons.
