Coaching Experience: This will be Perry’s tenth season as a track coach at Siuslaw. Previously he’s coached football, basketball, cross country, and wrestling. Perry’s impact with the Siuslaw throwers was evident in 2016 and 2017 when Siuslaw swept the boys’ and girls’ Shot and Discus titles at the Far West League Championship. Coach Perry also coached Carissa Oliver to a state championship (SP) and a 2nd place finish (DT) in 2017, and coached Ryan Rendon-Padilla to back-to-back state javelin titles (2018 & 2019) and a school record (191-7). Trent Reavis broke the Siuslaw Discus record under Coach Perry in 2017 with a throw of 160’2”. Jonathan Rose added himself to the list last season with a State Title in the Discus throw and a career with 4 League Titles spread through the Discus, Shot, and Javelin. Coached Jane Lacouture, a former XC and 3k runner, to be the 2024 State Runner-up in the 3A girls shotput.
Track and field (or athletic) background/competitive experience: Perry was a three-sport athlete while attending Siuslaw High School from 2003-2007. He was a member of the 2006 4A Football State Championship team and was selected First Team All-State as a Tight End and Defensive End. During his senior year, he was on three Far West League championship teams (football, basketball, track and field). Perry is still on the top 10 list in the discus and shot. He credits a huge amount of his athletic success to the physical and mental training received during track and field.
After high School Perry went on to Lane Community College where he was a two-time All-American in the Shot and Hammer and was voted the Most Improved Athlete for 2009. After Lane, he went to Southern Oregon University where he still owns the school record in the Hammer. While at SOU, Perry was a team captain and a four-time NAIA All-American in the shot and the hammer. Perry was the NAIA Runner-up in 2012 in both the shot and the hammer.
